Last week the school took part in our termly ‘No Pens Week’. Departments all selected a day in which they would teach lessons where students did not require a pen. Teachers and students engaged in talk based learning, focusing on discussion and developing oracy skills, as well as active learning and communication skills. There were some great activities going on around the school, from debates and hot seating characters in English, to charades and modeling in Humanities to learn and practice key terms and significant figures of history.
‘No Pens Week’ is a great opportunity for staff to develop their teaching and to consider different teaching strategies. For students it enables them to see learning in a different way, often creating further engagement within lessons through active participation in new and exciting activities.
A huge thank you to all staff and students involved.

Literacy Coordinator
